Day 17
Continua la nostra “lenta” scoperta di Calgary così questa mattina, ci incamminiamo nel vicinissimo quartiere di Downtown East Village per andare a vedere un qualcosa che aveva attratto la nostra attenzione la sera prima di sfuggita: la “The Upside Down Church” un opera d’arte chiamata anche “Device to Root out Evil”. Una chiesa di campagna capovolta, in piena piazza come simbolo per sradicare il male…
Continuiamo la nostra camminata verso Brotherhood of Mankind, altra scultura famosa a Calgary, particolare, innestata tra i grattacieli del centro. 10 figure “umane” alte 7 metri che rappresentano la fratellanza e l’unione, sono anche il logo ufficiale del sistema pubblico scolastico della città. Poco distante ancora un altro elemento di spicco, la Wonderland Sculpture, un imponente faccia d’acciaio, come ritratto di una giovane ragazza, simbolo della diversità e dell’innovazione. Rispetto alle Montagne Rocciose lasciate da poco, qui il caldo e l’umidita si fanno sentire così ci spostiamo nel Prince’s Island Park, noleggiamo le bici e girovaghiamo tra le tante stradine immerse nel verde, con centinaia di persone che si dedicano alle proprie attività rilassanti… Corsa, yoga, lettura, famiglie con bambini….davvero affascinante e rilassante. Tocchiamo anche un piccolo punto del quartiere di Chinatown e ci rilassiamo con un bel pic-nic nei prati circondati da tanti…ma tanti scoiattoli neri. Nel tardo pomeriggio rientriamo in hotel per dedicarci alle attività solite personali.
Day 17
Our "slow" discovery of Calgary continues, so this morning we head to the nearby Downtown East Village neighborhood to see something that had briefly caught our attention the night before: "The Upside Down Church," a work of art also called "Device to Root out Evil." An upside-down country church, standing in the middle of the square as a symbol of eradicating evil...
We continue our walk toward the Brotherhood of Mankind, another famous sculpture in Calgary, a unique one nestled between the downtown skyscrapers. Ten 7-meter-tall "human" figures representing brotherhood and unity are also the official logo of the city's public school system. Not far away is another standout feature, the Wonderland Sculpture, an imposing steel face resembling the portrait of a young girl, a symbol of diversity and innovation. Compared to the Rocky Mountains we've just left, the heat and humidity are noticeable here, so we head to Prince's Island Park, rent bikes, and wander the many green lanes, with hundreds of people engaging in their own relaxing activities... running, yoga, reading, families with children... truly fascinating and relaxing. We also stop in a small corner of Chinatown and relax with a lovely picnic in the meadows surrounded by many... many black squirrels. In the late afternoon, we return to the hotel to pursue our usual personal activities.
